STYLE:
For the second year, the man elected as Knitter’s Hunk has gone on to be named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive.” Knitters as prophets, I say. And, editorial board of People? Just check here next year. Save yourself some hassle.
SUBSTANCE:
Got a call last night that Mama had been checked into the hospital directly from what was to have been a routine doctor’s visit. I’ve talked to her twice, and even she doesn’t know exactly what’s going on. She and I both suspect that the doctor is trying to explain her continued weight loss (84 pounds yesterday), but no one has told her that for sure. I have a bag packed, and am stand-by to go, but until things get a little clearer, she doesn’t want me to make that drive. Too, Hannah continues to be plagued by the Head/Chest Cold from HELL, and I have yet another doctor’s appointment tomorrow for a prescription adjustment. If I didn’t need a stronger/better anti-depressant before, I sure as hell do now.

I’ve never counted the number of knitting patterns, knitting magazines and knitting books I own. Frankly, I’m afraid I’ll. . . Well, I suspect you understand why I don’t wish to start counting. And I’ve gone through them dozens upon dozens of times, looking for just the right pattern for a particular yarn. Or vice versa.
And yet, from all those options, there are one or two books that I go to more than others. This is one:
Whether it’s that an awful lot of the yarn I buy puts me in mind of ripples, or that, after an all-stockinette project, I’m ready for some variety, I thumb through this book probably 3 of every 4 or 5 times I’m deciding what to knit next.
Do you have a go-to pattern collection?
Yes, I AM a NASA Junkie

Hey. Honest-to-god water on the moon! This is SO COOL, people!

While watching “The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean” Wednesday night (God, Ava Gardner was beautiful), took pictures of almost all the hats I’ve made. Must now resize them to post on etsy. Hope to use free time over the weekend to photograph and upload some more worked-all-those-weeks-for-nothing-then-couldn’t-even-make-it-to-the-festival things.
Hannah’s had the stomach/throwing up things the last couple of days. Her best friend was just diagnosed with mono. Lots of friends nearer and nearer to all three of us are down with the flu. The germy circle is closing in around us. Who will be next? What will the symptoms be?
Watching a stunning, searing, brilliant piece called “God on Trial.” From the BBC, about Auschwitz prisoners. Quiet. And something that will stay with me.

In her latest post , my dear Roxanne obviously ran into some uploading or editing problems. Not to fear, though — I’m here to straighten everything out.
The odd choice photo should have been:

while the photo with the headline Sigh was obviously supposed to go with:

You’re welcome.

Have spent lots and lots of time lately trying to build a hand eye website. Using a builder site that should make it easy. Lies. Pages that the site says have been published can’t be found anywhere. Photos that were uploaded and saved are gone. Why on earth I can’t get a selling website off the ground completely escapes me. I’ve been trying for years, and getting nowhere.
The misadventures there mean I haven’t gotten anything going on etsy, either. It’s just aggravating all the way around, I tell ya.

My little girl has a blog now. If you’d like to say hi, you can go here. The life and thoughts of a 17-year-old. Not sure that even I will want to read every day.
And, from his wildly successful run in Vampire Lesbians of Sodom (sorry, no photos from Dr. Horrible yet), my son:

The wig is equal parts Taylor Swift and The Cowardly Lion, wouldn’t you say?

Been so long since I did a non-Hunk entry, not quite sure the memory is there. . . I’ll segueway.

Did you see the premiere Monday night? Sublime. SUB. BLIME. I was sobbing at the end. And, how magnificent an actor is Andre Braugher. If you didn’t watch, you don’t know.

Both Hannah and Madeleine continue to grow. And have beautiful eyes. Maddy had a vet appointment this afternoon — she’s up to 2.88 pounds.
School resumes on Monday. I teach Monday through Thursday, Hannah has classes Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We jimmied things around so that we can be there together most of the time. I think she’s looking forward to it, but she hasn’t had to pay for her textbooks yet. That generally puts people off the college experience.
Bought my little canopy for the Festival this morning. I have to practice setting it up just on principle, but also need to see how much space I have and what means of displaying are available. Other than that, knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting.
We haven’t been impacted by all the flooding, though it has rained and rained and rained here. One of Hannah’s friends hasn’t been to school this week because her county system is closed. It’s a true mess north and west of Atlanta.
Have you seen the new KnitPicks catalog? What is with all the kits? Nice idea and all, and very good prices, but, where did this sudden rush come from? I do like the Knitting Bag one, though. May have to look into that once the paychecks start coming back in.
