I’ve thought and weighed and considered, and I just can’t make a decision between the two colorways the winning nominators submitted. Read for yourself:
“The colorway is “Willie Wonka” and the colors are black, burgundy and gold.
Black and burgundy in honor of Mr. Depp’s costume in the film, and gold in honor of a. the ‘golden ticket’ so prized by the world and b. the Oscar that Mr. Depp needs to win ASAP.” (Should also throw in that one of the yarn ingredients is milk, as in chocolate. . . )
“A thicker yarn, bulky in weight, for the depth of his talent, but with a thread or two of softest silk run through it for his connection with his femininity. A smokey cast to the handpainted colors (for Don Juan DeMarco and Chocolat), which run a cool transition from charcoal grey to scarlet red. The color changes and the way they blend are like brush strokes on a blank canvas, the way Mr. Depp approaches each of his roles”
The second colorway is called “Depp Crush.”
So, both Kim and Cathy will be receiving prize packages. As soon as I can wade/swim to the post office to send them off!
I’ve been trying to copy-and-paste the Hunk results from PollDaddy, but without luck. Gave you the raw numbers last post — the percentages were Depp 55%, Harmon 45%. Harmon was ahead — significantly ahead all day. In fact, I was preparing the congratulatory post by looking for a photo of Mark when I got the final tally. Over 400 votes absolutely astounds me!!
The tiebreaker is for those who nominated Mr. Depp to come up with a yarn colorway in his honor. I’ve asked for color(s) and names at the minimum, but won’t count weight, fiber content and other details against anyone. Deadline is tonight — the winner will be announced no later than Monday.
‘Cause, honestly, I’ve got severe computer ennui just now. Not interested in going online, can’t think of anything interesting to say once I get here. Post-contest letdown, maybe?
The votes were cast loudly and often, and, in a come-from-substantially-behind win, your new Knitters’ Hunk is
John Christopher Depp II.
(Edited to add: The final vote total was Depp 253, Harmon 205. Remarkable.)
It’s been SO much fun again this year — thank you for your support and enthusiasm. Four people nominated Mr. Depp, and I will be contacting each of them with the tiebreaker to determine who will win the Grand Prize package. After I get in touch with all of them, I’ll let all of you know what they have to do.
Here is your chance to decide on the 2009 Knitters’ Hunk. Thank you all over myself for your involvement in this — trust me, I have a lot of fun this time each year.
I am not going to let results be seen this time, as I have with all the other votes, just to keep the suspense and surprise in play. But, by this time tomorrow, I’ll announce who the Hunk is, and who is eligible to win the Grand Nominating Prize!!!!
THREE HUNDRED-plus votes yesterday? Really? Some of you were making use of every available computer, methinks. . . There are 6 nominators left in the competition; we’ll have to have a tie-breaker no matter what. Stay tuned!
I thought Mike Rowe would make it all the way this year. He has some dedicated fans out there, I’ve discovered. Also thought PDemp was going to breeze in; it looked like he had some serious momentum. Shows what I know. . . You get your chance to vote for the other finalist Monday.
The last 3 things I have knit for the Festival (which is four weeks from today — yikes!), I want to keep for myself. Is that wrong? A pair of footies, a hat and a neckwarmer. I’ve got tags on everything else, but pricing is killing me. I haven’t the foggiest notion how much to charge for any of this stuff. Got a catalog yesterday that was selling a stockinette hat (just a simple pull-on) out of not-that-exotic-type yarn for $48. Are you kidding me?? It did have a knit flower tacked on it, but still . . .
Remember when Esme was a tiny little thing? Look now! (She’s on the left.) She and Madeleine have become great playmates. Esme is the only one of our cats still near kittenhood enough not to find chase demeaning.
Lily, by the way, does not like Maddy at all.
Which I simply cannot understand.
Erin was trailing Esme and Madeleine in the previous picture, no doubt on her way to a typical Saturday on my bed:
We are so very, very near The Crowning! Here is your first set of semifinalists. Since the poll for the other set doesn’t close until later today, I will wait until Monday to post those winners. Which means we’ll have our Hunk by Wednesday.
To the naming of 2009’s Knitter’s Hunk! Today’s winners will be our first two semifinalists. Almost 20 of you are also still in the running for the grand prize. Good luck to all. . .
Very sloppy contest-keeping on my part. The first pair was incorrect yesterday, and, instead of changing everything mid-day, I thought it would be better to just start all over. Want to make sure every vote gets counted!
